About Utah Lake

Utah Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Utah, covering approximately 150 square miles (96,000 acres) in Utah Valley. The lake sits at an elevation of approximately 4,489 feet and has a maximum depth of about 14 feet, making it a relatively shallow body of water. This shallow nature means the lake warms quickly in spring and cools rapidly in fall, which directly influences fish behavior and seasonal patterns.

The lake is fed primarily by the Provo River, Spanish Fork River, and American Fork River, with the Jordan River as its only outlet flowing north to the Great Salt Lake. Understanding the lake's geography helps anglers locate productive fishing areas throughout the seasons.
