Current status: post-spawn transition
As of June 7, 2026, the main 2026 run has largely wrapped. Expect scattered fish near tributary mouths, marinas, and open-water bait schools rather than the nonstop bank action anglers look for in April and May.
If white bass are your target today, keep moving. Fan-cast small jigs and spinners, watch for surface activity, and be ready to switch to catfish, carp, or bass if the schools are not visible.
When is the white bass run in Utah?
The Utah Lake white bass run usually fires from mid-April through late May. The most reliable trigger is warming water near the mid-50s°F, plus stable weather and flows that pull fish toward tributary mouths.
Where to fish during the run
- Provo River inlet and nearby flats when fish are pushing toward current.
- Spanish Fork River area when flow and access line up.
- Harbors and protected bays on windy days.
- Marina edges and riprap when fish pause before or after spawning pushes.
Start with the Utah Lake fishing spots page for access details and the spring fishing guide for seasonal planning.
Best lures for Utah Lake white bass
- Small curly-tail jigs in white, chartreuse, neon green, or orange.
- Inline spinners and small underspins when fish are chasing bait.
- Small shad-profile swimbaits when schools are suspended or roaming.
- A few jig-head weights so you can adjust to wind and current.
Keep the retrieve slow to moderate first, then speed up if fish are visibly chasing. If you get follows without hookups, downsize.
June backup plan
Once the run fades, the stronger June plays are usually night catfish, shallow carp, and post-spawn bass. For white bass-specific gear, see the white bass gear guide.
